Back home, young shoots of potatoes reach for the light shining under the cellar door. You also see chrysanthemums who came my way and I love the poetic analogies how both specimens strive to the light. Mondrian also loved to paint chrysanthemums and it is no coincidence that he chose this flower. The artist was a follower of Theosophy; a vision of life in which Eastern and Western religions were intertwined. Within this, the chrysanthemum symbolized growth, flowering and decay; a complete life cycle.
